FAQ's for Alcohol Screening

Q. If we are screening for alcohol, do we set a level for positive results.

A. Yes, this would be normal practice and it called a threshold for positive results. Generally, companies would set a level equivalent to the UK drink drive limit, but some organisations which are very safety sensitive, set a lower level. Altrix can advise you on this as part of our service, and remember, your drug & alcohol policy would need to reflect any levels set.

Q. How will I know if alcohol in the system is rising or falling?

A. When you undertake alcohol screening, you should always perform a second test about 20 minutes after the first test. This will then give you an indication as to whether the alcohol levels are rising or falling. Rising levels would indicate recent alcohol consumption, whilst falling levels would indicate more historic use (like the night before).
